Each of these dramatic graphite works on paper is framed in an extraordinary hand water-gilded sterling silver frame, with bronze and silver undertones.

Each framed piece measures 27½" wide x 37¼" in length.   They may be purchased as a pair or separately.

(See below for my thoughts on the work)

About "Pas de Deux"

Artists sometimes offer insight into the inspiration for their work, lending the viewer a better understanding of the motivation and underlying foundation of a particular piece -

I lived in Texas for five years.  While living there, the Rain Lily became my favorite of all the Texas wildflowers. It is of such simple design, so pure and delicate in color, so brief in existence and shows up as testimony to the unparalleled gift of rainfall. When I decided to use the Rain Lily as my subject, I did a "field shoot" of Rain Lilies around my home in the Texas Hill Country that resulted in several rolls of film depicting Rain Lilies in all postures and attitudes, as single flowers, and in clusters. When I came to the photograph that was the model for this piece, I simply looked at it for a long time, then put all the others away. I knew immediately what the piece would look like, and what the title would be.

This pair of Lilies was just that to me - a pair. A couple. I saw interaction between them, I saw tension in their postures, and I saw grace. More precisely - I saw a dance.

Pas de Deux is a French phrase used in dance meaning "Dance for two."

The music I listened to while creating this work was Soul of the Tango with the amazing cello work of Yo Yo Ma playing the music of the great Argentinean composer, Astor Piazzolla.
